About Marble Falls

What once was a sleepy retirement community in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Marble Falls has been “discovered” and today is another rapidly growing Highland Lakes community. Founded in 1887, Marble Falls is ideally located an hour northwest of Austin and about 85 miles north of San Antonio.

The city drew its name from the falls of marble on the Colorado River. Since the river was dammed to form Lake Marble Falls, the falls are now underwater and visible only rarely when the lake is lowered for dam repairs. The area is known for its pink granite, which adorns the State Capitol Building and many other state offices.

Population within the city of Marble Falls is 7,200 and growing rapidly. In fact, population within the Marble Falls ISD is nearly 19,000 according to the 2000 census, up 52% in 10 years. The fastest growing community is Meadowlakes with a population of 1,900. Horseshoe Bay’s population has nearly doubled in the last 10 years.
