About Marble Falls What once was a sleepy retirement community in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Marble Falls has been “discovered” and today is another rapidly growing Highland Lakes community. Founded in 1887, Marble Falls is ideally located an hour northwest of Austin and about 85 miles north of San Antonio.
Population Population within the city of Marble Falls is 7,200 and growing rapidly. In fact, population within the Marble Falls ISD is nearly 19,000 according to the 2000 census, up 52% in 10 years. The fastest growing community is Meadowlakes with a population of 1,900. Horseshoe Bay’s population has nearly doubled in the last 10 years. While many areas in Marble Falls primarily attract retirees, the fastest growing age group throughout the region is 40-50 year olds. Schools Several school districts serve students in the Marble Falls area. The largest is Marble Falls ISD, which has an enrollment of 3,800 students in its four elementary schools, middle school and two high schools. Other area school districts include Lampasas ISD (3,300 students); Burnet (3,070); Llano (1,900); Liberty Hill (1,770); and Johnson City (660).
